CHICAGO — A fatal single-vehicle crash overnight claimed the life of Alexander Smith, 34, and led to the closure of the Chinatown Feeder Ramp in both directions early Thursday morning on the city’s Near South Side.
According to the Illinois State Police, the crash occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on Thursday, July 10. Smith, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed the victim’s identity as Alexander Smith.
The Chinatown Feeder Ramp remained closed for several hours as investigators worked to determine the cause of the crash. All lanes have since reopened.
