Richmond County Authorities Investigating Deadly Shooting Outside Convenience Store

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon outside the One Stop convenience store located at 2382 Barton Chapel Road.

According to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office, 28-year-old Raekwon Brinson, of the 2700 block of Barton Chapel Road, was shot at least once and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:52 p.m.

Deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire in the 2300 block of Barton Chapel Road and confirmed upon arrival that one person was deceased. While unconfirmed, some reports suggest Brinson may have been shot while exiting the store, but authorities have not officially verified that detail.

A suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting but was pursued and apprehended by deputies near Milledgeville Road. Investigators have indicated that the shooting does not appear to be a robbery, though the exact motive remains unclear and is still under investigation.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the precise cause of death. At this time, no further information regarding the suspect or additional circumstances surrounding the incident has been released.
