A veil of heavy fog cloaked U.S. Highway 27 on the morning of Tuesday, July 8, creating treacherous driving conditions and setting the stage for an unthinkable tragedy. At approximately 8:34 a.m., a devastating crash at the State Road 124 junction took the lives of Thera Raugh and her teenage son, Dallas Laugh.
The dense fog had sharply reduced visibility across the region, complicating travel and response efforts. Emergency crews arrived quickly at the scene, but the impact of the crash had already dealt a fatal blow. Thera and Dallas, a devoted mother and her beloved son, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Their sudden loss has left the community in mourning. Friends, neighbors, and classmates remember Dallas as a kind-hearted teen with a bright future, and Thera as a loving mother whose life revolved around her family. The bond between them was evident to all who knew them—and now that bond is remembered with sorrow and reverence.
As investigators continue to determine the exact sequence of events, the tragedy is already prompting renewed concern over roadway safety during hazardous conditions like dense fog.
In the days ahead, the community will gather to grieve, support one another, and honor the memory of Thera and Dallas—two lives gone far too soon.
