COLES COUNTY, Ill. — A tragic accident in Coles County has claimed the life of a juvenile following a rollover crash involving a utility task vehicle (UTV) on Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 2:57 p.m., the Coles County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of the crash near 20940 East County Road 100 North. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that a UTV had overturned. The juvenile driver was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim, and the cause of the crash remains under active investigation.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Charleston Fire Department, Eastern Illinois University Police Department, the Coles County Coroner’s Office, and the Charleston Police Department.
The Coles County community is mourning this heartbreaking loss as investigators continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
