With deep sorrow, authorities have identified the victim of the tragic drowning incident at Power House Park in Fullerton as 15-year-old Adrian E. Harlow of Central City. Adrian’s life was heartbreakingly cut short on Thursday, July 10, after she was swept underwater by a strong current near the low head dam on the Cedar River.
The incident occurred in the afternoon hours and drew a swift response from the Nance County Sheriff’s Office, Fullerton Volunteer Fire Department, and Fullerton Volunteer Rescue Squad. Witnesses reported that two teenagers were swimming in the river when Adrian was suddenly pulled under by turbulent water.
Despite heroic efforts from first responders, who located Adrian downstream and initiated immediate lifesaving measures including CPR, she was later pronounced deceased at Merrick County Medical Center.
In a statement released Friday, Sheriff Bakewell expressed heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Adrian Harlow, noting the profound impact such a loss has on the entire community. He also praised the professionalism and coordination of the emergency teams who responded to the scene.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Adrian’s loved ones,” Sheriff Bakewell said. “We grieve alongside the community as we remember a young life taken far too soon.”
The community is urged to remain cautious around rivers and dams, particularly during high-flow periods, as conditions can quickly become dangerous even for experienced swimmers.
