In Loving Memory of Kenneth “Ken” Wayne Kelnhofer Jr.

Kenneth “Ken” Wayne Kelnhofer Jr., 71, of Girard, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Carlinville Area Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. Ken was born on October 22, 1953, in Danville, the beloved son of the late Ken Sr. and Betty (Norenberg) Kelnhofer.

Ken lived a life of honor, integrity, and service. A proud veteran, he served his country in the United States Army for 26 years, retiring with distinction as a Lieutenant Colonel. His commitment to duty, leadership, and sacrifice left a lasting legacy among his fellow service members, and his dedication continued well beyond his military career.

On August 8, 1992, Ken married Kathy Reeves, who survives him. Together, they built a loving and supportive home filled with laughter, faith, and cherished memories. Ken’s greatest pride and joy was his family, and he poured his heart into every role—husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Kathy Reeves Kelnhofer; his children Josh Kelnhofer of Carmel, Indiana; Jaclyn (Josh Kiel) Rheude of Virden; Bradley (Gloria) Rheude of Springfield; and Erik Kelnhofer of Springfield; and his adored grandchildren: Morgan and Brett Kelnhofer, Austin Rheude, Nolan and Nora Kiel, Elly Rheude, Parker Pieper, and Victoria Ostrander. Ken is also survived by his siblings, Steve (Suzy) Kelnhofer and Angie (Brian) Williams, along with many nieces and nephews who brought him endless joy.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved grandson, Colby Rheude.

Kindhearted, generous, and deeply devoted, Ken brought warmth and laughter to every gathering. Whether he was reading a good book, planning a new adventure, or playing outside with his grandchildren, Ken’s presence was one of genuine care and enduring love. He was the kind of person who put others first, always willing to lend a hand or share a smile.

A memorial service to celebrate Ken’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Girard. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will follow at Virden Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Disabled American Veterans, or the Gary Sinise Foundation, honoring Ken’s lifelong commitment to service and support for fellow veterans.

Ken’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
