It is with broken hearts and unimaginable sorrow that we announce the passing of Nehemiah McMillon, a vibrant and beloved 12-year-old boy who was tragically killed in a shooting on the night of Saturday, July 13, 2025, in the Winton Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati.
According to the Cincinnati Police Department and the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office, Nehemiah was found inside a vehicle on the 4800 block of Este Avenue just after 11 p.m., having suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Despite swift emergency response, Nehemiah did not survive the attack.
The incident also injured a second juvenile who was grazed by a bullet. That individual was later treated at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have indicated that the shooting was not accidental, though few additional details have been released. The Cincinnati Police Department’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating and urging anyone with information to come forward by calling 513-352-3542 or submitting anonymous tips via Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.
Nehemiah’s death has sent shockwaves through his family, school, and community. He was known for his kind heart, curious mind, and infectious smile—a boy who still had his whole life ahead of him. Those who knew him describe him as a loving son, a loyal friend, and a bright light in every room he entered.
This tragedy underscores a growing and deeply concerning trend of gun violence involving children in Cincinnati. Nehemiah is the fourth child under the age of 18 to die from gun violence in the city this year. His passing is not just a personal loss to his loved ones but a devastating blow to the entire community.
As family and friends begin to process this painful loss, the community comes together to grieve, to support one another, and to demand change. The pain is deep, and the questions are many—but the memory of Nehemiah McMillon will not be forgotten.
May his young life, taken far too soon, inspire healing, justice, and peace. And may his memory live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Rest in peace, sweet Nehemiah. You were deeply loved and will be forever missed.
