In Loving Memory of Jacob Brian Mattheis

Saginaw, Michigan, With broken hearts, the family of Jacob Brian Mattheis announces his unexpected passing on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the young age of 17. Jacob was a beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend whose vibrant spirit and kind heart left a lasting mark on all who knew him.

Born on July 3, 2008, in Saginaw, Michigan, Jacob was the cherished son of Brian and Michelle (Krabill) Mattheis. He was entering his junior year at Nouvel Catholic Central High School, where he was a dedicated student and athlete, actively participating in football, basketball, and track. His faith was important to him, and he was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Jacob spent his summers making memories as a Camp Counselor at Camp Lu Lay Lea in Lupton, Michigan. He loved the outdoors, thrived in the company of his friends, and treasured every moment with his close-knit family. His laughter, warmth, and compassionate nature will never be forgotten.

Jacob is survived by his loving parents, Brian and Michelle Mattheis of Saginaw; his devoted sisters, Riley and Addison Mattheis; his grandparents, Steve and Irene Krabill, Edward and Jennifer Mattheis, and Grandma Cathy Mattheis; his aunts and uncles, Ken Krabill, Ben Krabill, Frank and Tammi Mattheis, Lisa and Seth Vendelboe; his cousins, Kennedy, Marie, and Kelsey Krabill; and his special girlfriend, Cora Wedding.

He was welcomed into eternal rest by his great-grandparents, Robert and Colleen Krabill, Frank and Mary Krawczak, Eleanor Czolgosz, and his aunt Stephanie Krabill.

A Funeral Liturgy celebrating Jacob’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate, with burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Those who wish to honor Jacob’s memory may consider a contribution to Nouvel Catholic Central High School or Camp Lu Lay Lea—two places that meant so much to him.

Jacob’s bright light may have left this world too soon, but his legacy of love, faith, and friendship will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
