75-Year-Old Woman Fatally Shot While Collecting Aluminum Cans on Griggs Road Houston, TX – July 16, 2025 A tragic act of violence has left the Houston community shocked and heartbroken after a 75-year-old woman was fatally shot while collecting aluminum cans on Tuesday, July 15, around 11:15 a.m. at an apartment complex located at 4000 Griggs Road. According to the Houston Police Department (HPD), the elderly woman—well-known in the area for gathering cans—was retrieving aluminum cans that had been intentionally set out for her on the porch of a ground-floor apartment. As she approached the porch, 43-year-old Amber McNulty, a resident of that apartment, reportedly put on a ballistic vest, armed herself with a firearm, and fired multiple shots through a window, striking the woman. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. McNulty was detained without incident and has been charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon, but she has not yet been charged in connection with the fatal shooting.
