PHILADELPHIA — The NFL community is mourning the loss of former linebacker Bryan Braman, who passed away Thursday after a courageous battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. He was 37 years old.
Braman, known for his relentless energy on special teams and his role in the Philadelphia Eagles’ historic Super Bowl LII victory, was diagnosed earlier this year, according to a GoFundMe page organized to support his treatment. Despite undergoing advanced CAR-T cell therapy—a promising form of immunotherapy—the cancer progressed rapidly, surrounding vital organs in his final weeks.
His agent, Sean Stellato, confirmed the heartbreaking news on Thursday.
A devoted father, Braman leaves behind two young daughters, ages 11 and 8.
Braman’s fight touched many, with over $88,000 raised to support him and his family. Among those contributing was former teammate and Houston Texans star J.J. Watt, who donated $10,000 to the campaign.
A Career Remembered
Bryan Braman began his NFL journey as an undrafted free agent in 2011, signing with the Houston Texans, where he quickly carved out a niche as a fierce and fearless special teams player. After three seasons in Houston, Braman joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014 and became a staple on special teams.
In a full-circle moment, Braman returned to the Eagles during the 2017 postseason. His grit and experience helped fuel the team’s underdog run to victory in Super Bowl LII, where they famously toppled the New England Patriots. He registered a tackle in that championship game—a defining moment in both franchise and personal history.
Across his seven-season career, Braman appeared in 97 NFL games, recording 56 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery. Prior to his professional career, he was a standout at West Texas A&M.
Legacy of Grit and Heart
Beyond the field, Braman was known for his intensity, loyalty, and love for his children. Tributes have poured in from fans, former teammates, and coaches, remembering him as a warrior on the field and a devoted father and friend off it.
Bryan Braman’s journey—from undrafted hopeful to Super Bowl champion—was a testament to perseverance and heart. His loss is deeply felt across the NFL and by all who knew and admired him.
He is survived by his two daughters, family, and a legion of fans who will never forget the fire he brought to the game—and to life.
