Fatal Downtown Minneapolis Shooting Claims Life of Lafayette Collaso, 30

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The city of Minneapolis is reeling after a fatal shooting Tuesday evening claimed the life of 30-year-old Lafayette Collaso, a beloved community member remembered for his kind and gentle spirit.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on the 1500 block of 11th Avenue South, near the downtown corridor. Authorities say the violence stemmed from an argument between individuals who were previously acquainted. The dispute quickly escalated, leading to gunfire that ended Collaso’s life just steps from his residence.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly, but despite their efforts, Collaso was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have since cordoned off the area and launched an intensive investigation, reviewing surveillance footage and collecting statements from multiple witnesses in the neighborhood, which lies in close proximity to U.S. Bank Stadium.

Collaso’s tragic death has left those who knew him in disbelief. Qiana Foster, a longtime friend, shared her heartbreak:

“He wasn’t someone who caused trouble, which makes this even more confusing. Lafayette was quiet, thoughtful, and always tried to stay away from drama. This just doesn’t make sense.”

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara expressed concern about rising interpersonal violence and urged the community to come forward with any information that may help bring clarity and justice.

“We are committed to finding out exactly what happened here. Our investigators are working diligently to piece together the facts.”

As loved ones mourn and seek answers, Collaso’s memory is already being honored across social media, where friends describe him as loyal, soft-spoken, and full of heart. A memorial is being planned in his honor, and his family is asking for privacy during this time of unimaginable grief.
