MACON, Ga. — A heart-wrenching tragedy has gripped the Macon community after three individuals — a man and two young sisters — were found dead in the Ocmulgee River following a search that began Tuesday evening.
The Bibb County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identities of the victims as 28-year-old Johnny Collins III, 10-year-old Skyler Worthen, and 7-year-old Summer McRae. According to officials, all three had gone missing near the river before their bodies were recovered in a joint effort by local first responders.
Coroner Leon Jones reported that Skyler Worthen’s body was recovered around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Johnny Collins III and Summer McRae were found earlier in the day around 10:40 a.m. The coroner’s office also confirmed that Skyler and Summer were sisters. However, the nature of their relationship to Collins remains unknown at this time.
The incident unfolded at Amerson River Park, a popular local recreation spot, which had been closed during the search and recovery operation. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has since announced that the park will reopen on Thursday as the scene is now cleared.
The loss of these three lives — especially those of two young children — has devastated the community. Vigils, prayers, and tributes are already pouring in as families, friends, and neighbors begin to process the unimaginable grief.
As investigations continue, the community is being asked to respect the privacy of the families involved and to keep them in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
