The Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Walker’s death following a violent confrontation that unfolded late Tuesday night on 470th Street.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene after emergency calls reported gunfire and a disturbance at a residence. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds: Randy Walker and his younger brother, 36-year-old Destry Walker. Despite the efforts of first responders, Destry Walker was pronounced dead at the scene, while Randy Walker was airlifted to a medical facility in Des Moines in critical condition. Tragically, despite advanced medical care, authorities have since confirmed that Randy Walker also succumbed to his injuries.

Evidence gathered from both the shooting scene and the vehicle crash linked Barrell directly to the violent attack on the Walker brothers.
Barrell was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Appanoose County Jail, where he now faces serious charges, including one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. With the passing of Randy Walker, additional charges may be forthcoming as the case develops.
The Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office has launched a comprehensive investigation, working to piece together the events leading up to this senseless act of violence. While the motive remains under investigation, authorities have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
