HICKORY, N.C. — The community is mourning the tragic loss of Bobby Ray Killian, 43, who was killed in a fatal motorcycle crash late Wednesday evening, July 16, 2025, following a reported high-speed chase through Hickory.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:57 PM at the intersection of 21st Street Lane Southeast and Highway 70 Southeast. Emergency responders, including Hickory City Fire, Catawba County EMS, and other agencies, were immediately dispatched to the scene after reports of a serious collision involving a motorcycle.
Preliminary information indicates that the crash was preceded by a police pursuit. Upon arrival, first responders began life-saving efforts, with troopers performing CPR on Killian at approximately 10:03 PM. A medical helicopter was cleared for launch at 10:04 PM, but despite rapid intervention, Bobby Ray Killian was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The area surrounding the crash site was closed for several hours as multiple agencies conducted an extensive investigation, secured the scene, and collected evidence. The circumstances leading up to the chase and crash remain under active investigation, and officials have not yet released further information regarding any additional parties or contributing factors.
