With broken hearts and profound sadness, we announce the untimely passing of Toka Flickinger, age 47, of Auburn, Kansas, who tragically lost her life on July 17, 2025, in a devastating house fire at her home on North School Street. Toka’s passing has left her family, friends, and community deeply shaken, as they mourn the loss of a beloved daughter, mother, friend, and neighbor.
Toka was known for her warm smile, vibrant spirit, and unwavering love for her family. She lived with kindness in her heart and cared deeply for those around her. Her laughter was contagious, and her caring nature left an unforgettable mark on everyone she met. Toka was a pillar of strength in her community, often putting others’ needs ahead of her own.
The tragic incident that claimed her life has been determined by investigators with the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office to have been caused by an intentional act of arson. Despite heroic efforts by first responders, including Auburn police officers and firefighters from Shawnee County Fire District #2, Toka was unable to escape the flames and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Her passing comes as an unimaginable loss to her family, especially to the children who were safely removed from the home prior to the fire.
