ATLANTA, Ga. — A family and community are in mourning after 44-year-old D’Anthony Reaves, a father of 12 children and 8 stepchildren, was shot and killed early Saturday morning in downtown Atlanta.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting around 5:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Forsyth Street SW. Upon arrival, police discovered Reaves suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including two shots to the face and one to the arm. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Atlanta Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation, but as of now, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
Reaves’ heartbroken family identified him and gathered near the scene of the shooting on Saturday night for a candlelight vigil. Loved ones described him as a free spirit, a man known for his joyful nature and love of dancing.
“He was full of life,” family members said. “He lived for his children and his family. Now, 20 children are left grieving the loss of their father.”
The tragic killing has added to growing concerns about gun violence in Atlanta, particularly in the downtown area. Community members are calling for justice and safer neighborhoods, as police continue their investigation.
