It is with overwhelming sadness and disbelief that we share the heartbreaking news of the tragic passing of Kevin Cruickshank, who was senselessly killed on Saturday while riding his bicycle near the Manhattan Bridge in Chinatown.
Kevin was struck and killed by a driver speeding off the bridge in a stolen rental car—a repeat offender who then attempted to flee the scene. She has since been taken into custody, but the weight of this loss is immeasurable.
Kevin wasn’t just a neighbor—he was a cornerstone of our community. A former president of our co-op, a dedicated leader, and a true model of integrity and kindness, Kevin lived his life with quiet dignity and a generous spirit. He was the kind of person who looked out for others without being asked, who always had time for a conversation, and who left every space better than he found it.
To know Kevin was to feel welcome, seen, and cared for. His thoughtful presence, steady wisdom, and genuine warmth touched all of us who had the privilege of living near him and calling him a friend.
This loss is a cruel reminder of how fragile and precious life is. In moments like this, words fall short. But we can honor Kevin by carrying forward the values he lived by: community, compassion, and kindness.
Please take a moment today to hug your loved ones a little tighter, to check in on your neighbors, and to reflect on the kind of person Kevin was—a person who made this world better simply by being in it.
Rest in peace, Kevin. You will never be forgotten. Your memory and your legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone you touched.
