Ellinwood is mourning the loss of Blake Peters, 35, who tragically died in a single-vehicle accident on Saturday afternoon.
The Barton County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to the crash around 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of SE 105 Avenue and SE 20 Road, located just south of Ellinwood. According to the investigation, a 2007 GMC Yukon, driven by Peters, was traveling southbound on SE 105 Avenue when it failed to safely navigate the curve onto SE 20 Road. The vehicle left the roadway and rolled multiple times into an open area.
Blake Peters was ejected from the SUV during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials believe that excessive speed and alcohol consumption were contributing factors in the fatal accident. The Barton County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
