The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed a tragic update in the July 14, 2025, Jurupa Valley shooting. The victim, 21-year-old Jose Martinez-Contreras, has sadly succumbed to his injuries, transforming the case into a homicide investigation.
Authorities have also made significant progress in the case with the arrest of a second suspect:
🔹 Darnell White, 19, a resident of Jurupa Valley, was taken into custody at his home with the assistance of the Riverside Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit. He has been booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of murder and robbery.
🔍 Investigators determined that Martinez-Contreras was the victim of an armed robbery just moments before he was shot. This chilling discovery adds to the weight of the loss felt by family, friends, and the community.
⏪ Initial Incident Recap:
On Monday, July 14, at approximately 12:22 a.m., deputies responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon near Golden West Avenue and Condor Drive in Jurupa Valley. They arrived to find Martinez-Contreras suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
📍 The first arrest in the case occurred on July 18, when:
🔹 Lorenzo Howse Jr., 19, of Bloomington, was apprehended during a joint operation involving the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Division. He was initially charged with attempted murder.
Following Martinez-Contreras’s death, both suspects now face homicide charges.
