In Loving Memory of Eamon Downes (aka Liquid)

It is with profound sorrow and heartfelt love that we announce the passing of Eamon Downes, the legendary artist behind Liquid – Sweet Harmony, a devoted husband to Stella, a loving father to Bea, and a cherished friend to so many. Eamon passed away after an extraordinary and hard-fought five-year battle with cancer.

Eamon was more than a pioneer of UK rave and dance culture—he was the beating heart behind some of the most iconic sounds of the early ’90s. But to those lucky enough to know him, he was so much more. A laugh in the quiet moments, a source of boundless creativity, and a man whose warmth, loyalty, and mischief left a lasting imprint on everyone he touched.

The story began in an East End record shop in 1989. Before the DJ sets, before Sweet Harmony, there was just friendship, endless records from around the globe, and small rituals—curry and chips across the road, long train rides home, shared dreams. It was there that Eamon’s unmatched ear and passion for music first took flight.

That passion gave the world “Sweet Harmony”, a timeless anthem that still lifts hearts decades later. It was more than a track—it was Eamon’s spirit pressed to vinyl. From buzzing about record deals with XL, Pete Tong playing the tune on Radio 1, to dubplates being couriered around London, Eamon lived for the magic of music and the joy it brought others.

Beyond the clubs and charts, Eamon built a life rich with love and laughter. His relationship with Stella was a partnership built on strength, compassion, and endless affection. And when Bea was born, his world changed forever. She was the center of his universe. So close were our families that our children grew up together, calling each other brother and sister.

Even through illness, Eamon never stopped being Eamon—funny, generous, creative, full of ideas. He’d send mugs, t-shirts, posters with in-jokes just to make you laugh. When he moved to Italy, the calls, the video messages, and the banter didn’t stop. They only became more precious.

In recent years, Eamon continued his creative journey, composing for film, television, and advertising with Sparky—his partner in sound. His legacy is not only etched into the music history books but lives on through his latest projects, which remain in safe, loving hands.

His absence leaves a space no one else can fill. The music world has lost a visionary, and we have lost a brother. Every time a record drops from those golden years—‘89, ‘90, ‘91—he will be there. Every beat of Liquid Is Liquid, every drop of Sweet Harmony, every echo of laughter—we’ll feel him beside us.

To Stella, to Bea, and to everyone whose life was shaped by Eamon’s music, heart, and friendship: may we carry his light forward with every tune we play, every memory we hold, and every moment we honor the beautiful soul he was.

Rest in power, Eamon. Fly high.

We love you. Always.
