Brian J. Diguez Obituary, Death – Authorities have confirmed the death of an inmate at Folsom State Prison following a suspected assault involving two fellow inmates, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).
The incident took place in the prison’s dayroom around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, when 34-year-old Brian J. Diguez was reportedly attacked by two other inmates. Correctional staff quickly responded, separating the individuals involved and beginning life-saving measures. Despite these efforts, Diguez was pronounced dead at 7:09 p.m. by the Folsom Fire Department after being moved to the facility’s triage and treatment area.
Diguez had been incarcerated since July 25, 2016, after being convicted in Los Angeles County for voluntary manslaughter, along with a sentencing enhancement under the Street Gang Act. He was serving a 21-year term.
Prison staff recovered two inmate-made weapons at the scene. The suspects in the assault have been identified as 48-year-old Boris Bonilla and 32-year-old Carlos J. Duran. Both men were immediately moved to restricted housing pending further investigation. Bonilla, also from Los Angeles County, is serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole for first-degree murder and associated enhancements. Duran, from Santa Clara County, is serving a two-year sentence for a parole violation connected to vehicle theft, and he has prior theft-related convictions.
No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
In response, CDCR officials temporarily restricted movement in the affected area of the prison to assist the ongoing investigation. The prison’s Investigative Services Unit is leading the inquiry in collaboration with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office and the county coroner.
