Anchorage authorities have identified the victim of a fatal downtown shooting that occurred early Sunday morning as 23-year-old Leroy Manogiamanu.
The incident took place near the 700 block of West Fourth Avenue, an area home to the Gaslight bar and several nearby businesses, and located close to the Anchorage Police Department’s headquarters. Officers responded to reports of gunfire just before 3 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Manogiamanu deceased at the scene.
In addition to the fatality, three other individuals sustained injuries. One victim suffered life-threatening injuries, another was wounded less seriously, and a fourth was later located with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities have yet to release detailed information regarding the sequence of events, the motive behind the shooting, or whether a suspect has been identified or taken into custody. It remains unclear how many people were involved or if the shooting was targeted.
Witnesses described a chaotic and terrifying scene on social media, recounting how people scrambled for safety as shots rang out. Emergency personnel treated victims at the scene while police cordoned off the area and launched their investigation.
