Montre Stewart Obituary, Death – Blythewood Woman Killed in I-95 Crash Identified

Authorities have identified the victim of a deadly multi-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday afternoon on Interstate 95. The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office confirmed that 55-year-old Montre Stewart of Blythewood lost her life as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.

According to initial reports, Stewart was driving northbound on I-95 when her vehicle was struck from behind by another car. The impact caused her vehicle to surge forward and collide with a third vehicle, triggering a chain-reaction crash that left multiple vehicles damaged and several people injured.

Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, and Stewart was transported to Trident Medical Center. Despite efforts by medical personnel, she was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Coroner Paul Brouthers.

Two additional individuals were also injured in the crash. Their names and the extent of their injuries have not yet been released.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently leading the investigation into the fatal incident. Authorities are working to determine the precise circumstances that led to the crash, including whether speed, distraction, or other contributing factors were involved.

Investigators are expected to analyze physical evidence from the scene, vehicle damage, and any available witness statements or surveillance footage to reconstruct the events.

No charges or citations have been issued at this time.

The collision temporarily shut down portions of the northbound lanes of I-95 as first responders cleared the scene and assisted those involved. The Highway Patrol has not indicated how long the investigation may take to complete.

Montre Stewart’s death marks another tragic addition to the growing number of roadway fatalities in South Carolina this year. Officials continue to remind drivers of the importance of caution, attentiveness, and maintaining safe following distances—particularly on major highways such as I-95, which see high speeds and heavy traffic.

The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office extended heartfelt condolences to Stewart’s family and loved ones. Her death serves as a somber reminder of how quickly lives can be changed on the road.

Anyone with information related to the crash is urged to contact the South Carolina Highway Patrol as the investigation remains ongoing. Further updates are expected as more details become available.
