Oskaloosa Man Tragically Killed in Head-On Collision on U.S. 40 Highway

The Oskaloosa community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Leonard Schupp, 51, who tragically passed away on the afternoon of Friday, July 18, 2025, following a devastating multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 40 Highway.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred near the 370.6 mile marker when a 2012 Ford Focus, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes, struck a 2021 Ram 1500 Promaster that had attempted to swerve into a ditch to avoid the collision. The driver of the Ram sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The Ford Focus continued traveling the wrong way before crashing head-on into Leonard Schupp’s 1965 Ford F100. Leonard, a lifelong resident of Oskaloosa, Kansas, was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the impact. A 15-year-old passenger in his vehicle was seriously injured and transported to a Topeka-area hospital for emergency treatment.

The driver of the Ford Focus was also taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Leonard Schupp was known for his deep roots in the community, his love for classic vehicles, and his unwavering devotion to his family and friends. His sudden and tragic loss has left a void that will be deeply felt across Oskaloosa and beyond.
