It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Justin Lemire, 35, and Sheila Lemire, 47, both of LaFargeville, New York, who lost their lives in a tragic motorcycle accident on the evening of Saturday, July 19, 2025.
According to New York State Police, the accident occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. on County Route 181 in the Town of Clayton. Justin was operating a 2019 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with Sheila as his passenger when the motorcycle, traveling westbound in the eastbound lane, collided head-on with a 2014 GMC Terrain. The impact of the collision ejected both Justin and Sheila from the motorcycle. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants of the GMC, identified as 26-year-old Madison Kahler and 37-year-old Eric June, both of Gouverneur, were not seriously injured and declined medical treatment at the scene. Authorities reported that a drug recognition expert evaluated Kahler, and there were no signs of impairment.
Tragically, a second motorcyclist, 52-year-old Johnathan Heyl of Chaumont, was also involved after his 2006 Harley-Davidson struck debris from the initial crash. He was ejected from his motorcycle and suffered serious injuries, requiring airlift transport to a hospital in Syracuse.
Justin and Sheila Lemire were known for their love of the open road, their deep bond as a couple, and their strong ties to their community in LaFargeville. Their sudden loss has left family, friends, and neighbors in mourning, struggling to cope with the heartbreak of such a devastating tragedy.
The New York State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Funeral arrangements for Justin and Sheila will be announced by the family. In the meantime, loved ones are encouraged to remember the joy, laughter, and love they brought into the lives of those around them.
