WPD Investigating Sunday Night Shooting That Left Five Wounded

The Waynesboro Police Department (WPD) is actively investigating a Sunday night shooting that left five people injured, including one individual who sustained serious injuries and was airlifted for advanced medical care.

The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. near the corner of Turner and Gray Streets, where a group of people was gathered in front of a residence. According to Waynesboro Police Chief Holt Ross, numerous shots were fired at the group, striking five individuals.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene. One of the victims, critically wounded, was airlifted to a trauma facility in Jackson, while the remaining four victims were transported for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators remained at the scene through Monday morning, combing the area for evidence and speaking with potential witnesses. As of now, no suspects have been identified, and the motive remains unclear.

“This is an ongoing investigation, and we are working diligently to gather all the facts,” said Chief Ross. “We are asking for anyone with any information whatsoever — even the smallest bit — to please come forward. We need your help to solve this case.”
