AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department has released new details surrounding a deadly shooting that occurred during the early morning hours of July 19, claiming the life of 20-year-old Comarri Thompson.
Around 2:10 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call from a woman reporting she had been shot and that another person was unresponsive. The call led authorities to the 800 block of East Braker Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered the caller and a man—later identified as Thompson—both suffering from gunshot wounds. Thompson died from his injuries at the scene, while the woman, confirmed to be his girlfriend, was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had been sitting in their car near the intersection of Braker Lane and Dessau Road when a white vehicle pulled up beside them. Multiple rounds were fired into their vehicle, striking both individuals. The suspect vehicle fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Authorities are investigating the incident as a drive-by shooting and homicide.
While the police initially detained several individuals for questioning, no details about arrests or suspects have been made public at this time.
The Austin Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
Residents in the area of East Braker Lane and Dessau Road are asked to review any home surveillance footage that may have captured the suspects’ vehicle around the time of the incident.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue to gather evidence and speak with witnesses. At this time, the motive for the shooting remains unclear, and it has not been determined whether the victims were targeted.
