Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Claims Life of Zolfo Springs Man in Fort Meade

FORT MEADE, FL — A tragic single-vehicle accident on Monday, July 21, 2025, has claimed the life of 35-year-old Alejandro Toledo of Zolfo Springs. The crash occurred at approximately 4:56 p.m. on U.S. Highway 17 near Bill Bryan Road, amid rainy weather conditions.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit, Toledo was driving a silver Chevrolet truck southbound in the inside lane of US 17. As he attempted to pass another vehicle and changed lanes, he lost control on the wet roadway. The vehicle veered toward the southwest shoulder, began to rotate, and overturned multiple times.

Authorities confirmed that Toledo was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was ejected from the vehicle and found in a wooded area along the west side of the highway. The truck’s airbags did not deploy during the incident. Toledo was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.

The investigation remains active as officials continue to piece together the circumstances that led to the fatal rollover. Wet road conditions are believed to have been a contributing factor.
