OKLAHOMA CITY — Two people are dead and another is in custody following a fatal crash that occurred early Tuesday morning in southwest Oklahoma City. The collision happened around 2 a.m. near the intersection of Southwest 24th Street and Agnew Avenue.
Emergency crews were alerted to the scene not by a traditional 911 call, but through an automated iPhone crash detection alert, which notified dispatchers of the incident. Upon arrival, police discovered multiple individuals involved in the wreck.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Authorities later confirmed that a second victim died from their injuries. The condition of the third person has not been publicly disclosed.
Police have arrested the driver of the other vehicle involved on suspicion of driving under the influence. Investigators believe impairment may have contributed to the deadly crash. At this time, the suspect’s name, age, and other details have not been released.
The identities of the deceased have also not been made public as officials work to notify next of kin.
The Oklahoma City Police Department continues to investigate the crash, including how the collision occurred and how many vehicles may have been involved. As part of their standard process, authorities are reviewing physical evidence from the crash site, analyzing potential surveillance footage, and may conduct toxicology testing.
The intersection was temporarily closed for several hours Tuesday morning while police reconstructed the scene and collected evidence.
This tragedy adds to a growing number of fatal collisions in the area linked to suspected impaired driving. Law enforcement agencies continue to emphasize the dangers of getting behind the wheel while intoxicated, reminding the public that such decisions can have devastating and irreversible consequences.
As the investigation moves forward, police are expected to release additional details once families are notified and charges are potentially filed. Authorities are also encouraging anyone with information related to the crash to contact the Oklahoma City Police Department.
This incident serves as a somber reminder of the critical importance of safe, sober driving and the tragic cost of reckless behavior on the road.
