In Loving Memory of Sherman Augustin: Saint Lucia and the Football World Mourn a Rising Star

The Saint Lucian football community is reeling from the tragic loss of Sherman Augustin, a beloved former national footballer whose life was cut short on Carnival Monday. He was just 22 years old.

The Saint Lucia Football Association Inc. (SLFA) has extended its deepest condolences to Sherman’s family, friends, teammates, and supporters as the island and wider football world come to terms with the sudden passing of a player who embodied talent, discipline, and heart.

Sherman began his football journey with GMC United, where his raw skill, athleticism, and unshakable commitment to the sport quickly captured the attention of coaches and fans alike. He later represented Gros Islet in the SLFA Inc.’s Senior Men Domestic Competition and played a pivotal role in the Semi-Professional Football League, establishing himself as a dynamic and reliable midfielder.

In 2024, Sherman earned four caps with the Saint Lucia Senior National Team in the Concacaf Nations League — a significant milestone that underscored his growing impact and potential. National Assistant Coach Francis “Baba” Lastic remembered him as “a hard and dedicated worker whose modus operandi was putting the team first,” describing Sherman as a rising star with an unmatched team-first mentality.

Sherman’s career reached new heights in September 2022, when he joined Grenades FC in Antigua, bringing his Saint Lucian grit and flair to the regional stage. His presence on the pitch was felt immediately. Club President Chester Hughes paid tribute to his legacy:

“He brought pride, passion, and power to our midfield. Since joining us from Saint Lucia, Sherman has been a game-changer — helping lead us to our historic 2022/23 league title.”

Sherman Augustin was more than a footballer — he was a son of the soil, a beacon of promise, and a role model for young athletes across the region. His untimely death is a devastating blow to Saint Lucia’s sporting community, but his legacy of dedication, humility, and excellence will live on.

May his memory inspire future generations to dream big, work hard, and play with heart.

Rest in power, Sherman. You will never be forgotten.
