A devastating incident unfolded in Gaines Township on Monday, claiming the lives of two individuals in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide. The Kent County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased as 43-year-old Elizabeth Weber and her boyfriend, 52-year-old Troy Balcer, both residents of Gaines Township.
The tragic events occurred shortly after 1 p.m. in the 6700 block of Madison Avenue, just north of 68th Avenue. Authorities responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance, during which the caller mentioned hearing gunshots.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered both Weber and Balcer deceased inside the residence. Preliminary investigations indicate the couple had been engaged in a domestic dispute that escalated into deadly violence. Authorities believe Balcer shot Weber multiple times before turning the gun on himself.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Weber suffered several gunshot wounds, while Balcer sustained a single self-inflicted fatal gunshot wound. Evidence collected at the scene supports the determination of a murder-suicide, though the investigation remains ongoing.
