Fifth Victim Identified in Fatal San Antonio Bus Crash During High-Speed Chase

SAN ANTONIO, TX — The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a fifth victim in last week’s devastating crash involving a passenger bus and a stolen vehicle engaged in a high-speed police chase. Judith Paulsel, 79, was confirmed to have died from sharp force injuries sustained in the collision.

The tragic incident unfolded around 3 p.m. last Thursday on Interstate 35 near Somerset, when a stolen vehicle, fleeing from San Antonio police, collided violently with a bus carrying over 20 passengers. Authorities say the impact was catastrophic.

Five individuals have now been confirmed dead as a result of the crash, which shocked the community and sparked renewed conversations around public safety and law enforcement pursuits. Judith Paulsel joins the growing list of lives cut short in what officials are calling a preventable tragedy.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, officers were pursuing four suspects in the stolen vehicle when the crash occurred. At least one of the suspects was believed to be armed with an AK-47. After the crash, the suspects fled the scene on foot, triggering a manhunt that remains active.

Police continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any information related to the fugitives, who are considered dangerous.

“This incident has devastated families and sent shockwaves through our community,” said a spokesperson for SAPD. “We remain committed to finding those responsible and holding them accountable.”

The crash site on I-35 was closed for several hours as emergency responders worked tirelessly to rescue survivors and recover victims. Dozens were injured and transported to local hospitals, some with life-threatening injuries.

As investigations continue and families begin the painful process of mourning, the community comes together to honor the memory of Judith Paulsel and the other lives lost. Grief counselors and support services have been made available to those affected by the crash.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on the suspects’ whereabouts to contact San Antonio Police immediately.
