NEW CASTLE, DE — Heartbreak hangs heavy over the community of New Castle as residents mourn the tragic and untimely death of 18-year-old Mateo Renato Banegas, who was fatally shot on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
The incident occurred around 3:58 p.m. near Wilton Boulevard, where law enforcement officers responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Mateo suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the swift efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
