CRESSWELL QUAY, Wales — Heartbreak has swept through the local community following the tragic death of 18-year-old Sally Allen, who lost her life in a road traffic collision while returning from the Royal Welsh Show.
Sally, a beloved resident of The Nook, Cresswell Quay, was driving a red Renault Clio when she was involved in a collision with a blue Audi Q5 around 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, near Broadoak, between Carmarthen and Llandeilo.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, Sally was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the Audi were transported to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Sally’s family has been notified and is receiving support from specialist officers.
The road was closed for several hours to allow for a detailed investigation but has since reopened.
Sally’s tragic passing has sent shockwaves through her home village and beyond. Known for her warm spirit, compassion, and deep love of horses and country life, she has been remembered as a bright and kind young woman who touched many lives.
The Reynalton Village Facebook group, which first shared news of her passing, posted a heartfelt tribute, saying:
“Sally was the kind of person who made you feel seen and cared for. She had a natural connection with animals and a deep-rooted love for the countryside. This is a devastating loss for all who knew her.”
To honor Sally’s memory and support her grieving family, a Eucharist service will be held at Jeffreyston Church at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, led by Father Paul. The local community is encouraged to attend and show their support.
Meanwhile, Dyfed-Powys Police continue to investigate the collision and are appealing for any witnesses or dashcam footage from motorists traveling along the A40 in that area at the time of the crash.
A spokesperson for the force said:
“Anyone who was traveling along this road at the relevant time and has dash camera footage is urged to contact us. Please call 101 and quote reference: 075 of the 23rd.”
As the community gathers to mourn and remember Sally, many are also calling for improved road safety measures along rural routes such as the A40. For now, hearts remain heavy as friends and neighbors grieve the loss of a young life taken far too soon.
