Jackson Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Highway 71

JACKSON, MN — A tragic motorcycle crash in Jackson Tuesday evening has claimed the life of 48-year-old Jason Mekosch, a resident of Jackson. The incident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 71 and Bailey Street.

According to Jackson County Sheriff Shawn Haken, the crash involved a 2017 Ford Fusion driven by a teenager and a 1991 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Mekosch. Both vehicles were traveling southbound on Highway 71 when the Ford Fusion signaled to make a right turn onto Bailey Street. As the Fusion began the turn, Mekosch reportedly attempted to pass on the right, clipped the vehicle, and then struck a light pole.

Emergency responders, including the Jackson Ambulance and Jackson Fire Department, arrived quickly at the scene. Mekosch was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries. Authorities confirmed that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
