Joanna Rogers Fatally Shot by Lewisville Police After High-Speed Chase and Armed Standoff

The incident began around midnight when a Lewisville police officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by a woman believed to have a felony warrant. The driver, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as 43-year-old Joanna Rogers, refused to stop and sped away, prompting a multi-jurisdictional chase through North Texas.

During the pursuit, Rogers reportedly collided with a Lewisville Police Department patrol vehicle but continued fleeing. The officer involved in that crash was not injured.

The chase came to an end in a commercial parking lot located in the 2200 block of the southbound I-35E service road in Lewisville. According to police, Rogers exited her vehicle while armed with a handgun and failed to comply with repeated commands to drop the weapon.

Officers opened fire, striking Rogers. They immediately began lifesaving measures, and she was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead around 1 a.m.

The incident remains under investigation. The names of the officers involved have not yet been released. Authorities are reviewing body camera footage and other evidence as part of the standard officer-involved shooting protocol.
