PASCO, WA – A heartbreaking tragedy has rocked the Pasco community as authorities confirm that 23-year-old Lupita Ponce-Penaloza was the victim in a deadly shooting early Wednesday morning. The young mother was found shot to death inside a converted garage apartment on Marie Street, launching a homicide investigation that has left a family—and city—grappling with grief and unanswered questions.
Franklin County Coroner Curtis McGary officially identified Ponce-Penaloza, who died from multiple gunshot wounds. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday to determine further details surrounding her death.
Lupita, a beloved daughter, sister, friend, and mother, leaves behind a young son. Online records show she had lived in both Kennewick and Pasco, and family members describe her as a bright light in their lives—someone who could bring laughter and love even in difficult times.
Her sister, Isabella Ponce, created a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses and honor Lupita’s life. In a touching tribute, Isabella wrote:
“We not only lost a sister, but she was a mother and a friend. We need justice and we need to know what happened. We are at a loss for words. Nothing can explain the pain we all have to find this out.”
The family is devastated, with Lupita’s parents reportedly inconsolable. As they lean on one another during this time of unimaginable sorrow, they are pleading with the public and law enforcement for answers and accountability.
“Lupita was the best sister,” Isabella shared. “Although we all had our issues with each other, she always had her way to make us laugh and reunite with each other. We need and want justice for Lupita.”
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation by local authorities remains active. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact Pasco Police.
Lupita’s senseless death has left an indelible mark on her family, friends, and the broader community. As they grieve the loss of a vibrant young woman whose life was cut far too short, they also fight for justice in her memory.
