OKALOOSA ISLAND, Fla. — A devastating crash claimed the lives of two individuals Friday night following a high-speed collision between a motorcycle and an SUV near a popular resort on U.S. Highway 98.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal incident occurred near The Destin West Beach and Bay Resort at 1515 Miracle Strip Parkway on Okaloosa Island. Authorities say a motorcycle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed collided with the right side of an eastbound SUV as it attempted to turn left into the resort.
The impact proved deadly. The 19-year-old male motorcyclist from Fort Walton Beach was pronounced dead at the scene. A 50-year-old woman from Fort Worth, Texas, who was seated in the front passenger seat of the SUV, also died from her injuries.
The SUV’s driver, a 19-year-old male, sustained serious injuries and was transported for medical care. Two other passengers in the vehicle were also seriously hurt and taken to HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital. Their identities have not yet been released by officials.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Further details will be provided as they become available.
