WHITTIER, Calif. — A man was found fatally shot inside a vehicle Thursday morning near a school in Whittier, and the suspect remains at large.
The shooting occurred shortly after 11 a.m. near Pickering Avenue and Penn Street, not far from St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School.
Responding officers discovered the victim slumped over the driver’s seat of a beige Saturn, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound.
“I was inside the house when I heard a gunshot,” said a neighbor named Christopher, who spoke with Eyewitness News. “I came out but didn’t see anyone. A few minutes later, the police arrived.”
No additional injuries were reported, but the incident has left local residents shaken — especially due to its close proximity to a school and the fact it happened during the day.
“Thank God no children or others were caught in the crossfire,” Christopher added. “I have two twin toddlers, and it’s frightening to think this happened in broad daylight.”
As of Thursday afternoon, no arrests have been made, and the suspect remains at large.
