A tragic incident unfolded in Florence, Kentucky, on Friday as a 29-year-old man was shot and killed during a domestic altercation, according to the Florence Police Department.
Authorities responded to the 100 block of Lloyd Avenue after receiving a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim, identified as John Lawyer, lying unresponsive in the hallway of a residence.
Lawyer was quickly transported to St. Elizabeth-Florence Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police say the fatal shooting stemmed from a verbal argument between Lawyer and 28-year-old Anastazia M. Calhoun, reportedly over a custody-related matter. The dispute escalated, and Calhoun allegedly shot Lawyer with a handgun.
Calhoun was taken into custody at the scene and has since been charged with murder. She is currently being held at the Boone County Jail.
The case remains under investigation by the Florence Police Department.
