Mesquite Community in Mourning Following Tragic Shooting of 16-Year-Old Brandon McGhee

Mesquite, TX – July 26, 2025 — Heartbreak has struck the Mesquite community following the tragic death of 16-year-old Brandon McGhee, who was fatally shott in a neighborhood shooting that has left residents stunned and grieving.

Mesquite police responded to reports of gunfire around 9:30 p.m. on July 24 in the 2100 block of Pecan Creek Drive. When officers arrived, they discovered two teenage victims. A 15-year-old male was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while Brandon McGhee was found nearby and sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have arrested a 15-year-old male suspect, and an investigation remains ongoing. Police have not yet released a motive for the shooting, but they are continuing to gather evidence and speak with witnesses.

Brandon’s family has spoken out about their devastating loss, remembering him as a bright, kind-hearted young man with big dreams and a deep love for his family. He was described as someone who brought joy wherever he went and had ambitions of building a better life for those around him.
