STANTON TOWNSHIP, Wis. – A tragic motorcycle crash on Saturday morning has claimed the life of 34-year-old David K. Decker, a resident of Somerset, Wisconsin.
The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office reports that the fatal accident occurred at approximately 9:13 a.m. in the 1600 block of County Trunk Highway H, near the intersection of 170th Street in Stanton Township.
According to authorities, a passerby called in the crash after coming across the wreckage. Deputies arrived shortly thereafter and found a 2024 Indian Motorcycle and its rider—Decker—who had sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner.
Initial findings indicate that Decker was traveling westbound when he lost control of the motorcycle. The vehicle veered off the roadway, entered a ditch, and rolled multiple times. Law enforcement confirmed that Decker was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
No other vehicles were involved, and no witnesses were immediately present when the accident occurred. While speed, mechanical failure, and other potential contributing factors have not been ruled out, investigators say it’s too early to determine the exact cause. An active investigation remains ongoing.
The crash adds to a growing concern over motorcycle-related fatalities, which typically spike during warmer months. Safety experts continue to urge all riders to wear helmets and protective gear, stressing that such precautions can dramatically reduce the risk of fatal outcomes.
Officials are asking anyone who may have seen the crash or has information that could assist in the investigation to contact the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office.
As friends, family, and the community mourn the unexpected loss of David K. Decker, law enforcement offers their deepest condolences and encourages all motorists—especially motorcyclists—to practice heightened caution on rural highways.
Further updates will be shared as the investigation develops.
