Elaine Weamer, 78, Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Antioch

Antioch, IL — A tragic collision in Antioch on Saturday afternoon has claimed the life of Elaine Weamer, a 78-year-old woman from Hainesville, and left two drivers hospitalized. The crash occurred at approximately 2:35 p.m. at the intersection of Routes 173 and 83, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities report that the crash involved a Honda traveling south on Route 83 that attempted to turn east onto Route 173. In doing so, the vehicle collided with a Hyundai heading north on Route 83. Both vehicles sustained major damage in the impact.

Emergency responders arrived on scene and transported the drivers of both vehicles, along with a passenger in the Hyundai — later identified as Elaine Weamer — to nearby hospitals. Sadly, Weamer was pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. An autopsy later confirmed that she died as a result of blunt force trauma sustained in the crash.

The conditions of the drivers have not yet been disclosed.

The Antioch Police Department is investigating the incident with assistance from the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team. Officials have not released further details regarding potential citations or contributing factors in the crash.

As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of Elaine Weamer, remembered as a cherished resident of Hainesville. Authorities are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to come forward.
