Jason Briscoe, – Greencastle Man Drowns at Rainbow Lake in Perry County

PERRY COUNTY, Ind. – Authorities have confirmed the death of Jason Briscoe, a resident of Greencastle, Indiana, following a tragic drowning incident at Rainbow Lake over the weekend.

The Perry County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving a 911 call around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, alerting them to a potential medical emergency involving a man on a raft. The caller stated that Briscoe appeared to be in distress, seen hanging over the edge of the raft with his head submerged in the water.

First responders rushed to the scene and located Briscoe unresponsive. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Perry County Coroner.

An autopsy conducted on Sunday confirmed the cause of death as drowning, according to preliminary findings.

While authorities believe the drowning to be accidental, the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. The Sheriff’s Office has not provided details about how Briscoe came to be in distress or whether there were other individuals present at the lake at the time. It also remains unclear if Briscoe had any preexisting medical conditions that may have contributed to the emergency.

Investigators are continuing to gather information, including witness accounts and additional evidence from the scene, to determine exactly what led to the tragic death.
