A City Shaken by Tragedy in Midtown Manhattan

NEW YORK — Tonight, hearts across the city are heavy as we mourn the senseless loss of life following a mass shooting in Midtown Manhattan that has, so far, claimed the lives of an NYPD officer and four civilians. What should have been an ordinary Monday evening turned into a nightmare one marked by chaos, grief, and unspeakable sorrow.

The gunman, identified by law enforcement sources as Shane Tamura, a 27-year-old from Las Vegas, opened fire inside 345 Park Avenue, a major Manhattan office tower. What followed was a brutal act of violence that left behind shattered lives and an entire city in mourning.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and to our brothers and sisters in the NYPD, who have lost one of their own in the line of duty. This tragedy is not just theirs to bear—it belongs to all of us. The pain of this loss is shared by a city that refuses to let violence define it.

In moments like these, we must stand united—not only in grief, but in strength. As we remember those taken far too soon, we also hold close those who are injured, those who responded with bravery, and the families left to pick up the pieces.

May God bless the victims, their families, and all who have been impacted by this unspeakable act. And may we never stop working toward a city—and a world—where this kind of violence is no longer possible.
