JAMESTOWN, ND — Authorities have identified the woman who died in a rollover crash at Stink Lake on Saturday as 67-year-old Rita Kubat of Jamestown.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the fatal incident occurred on July 26, when a 1999 Toyota Camry veered off 65th Avenue NE (Old US Highway 281) and entered the west ditch. The vehicle reportedly rolled over a series of large rocks before coming to rest upside down in Stink Lake.
Kubat, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials noted that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, though it remains unclear whether it had been in use earlier during the drive.
The circumstances leading up to the crash are still under investigation. The North Dakota Highway Patrol has not released further details pending the outcome of the ongoing inquiry.
Rita Kubat’s death marks a tragic loss for the Jamestown community, as authorities continue to work to determine the cause of the crash.
