MESA, Ariz. – A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in the East Valley on July 29, as Angela Ciura, 60, and Robert Braun, 55, were found dead in what police believe may be a murder-suicide.
According to the Mesa Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home near Loop 101 and Baseline Road shortly before 5:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call. The caller, a family member, had returned home to find their sister and former brother-in-law deceased from gunshot wounds.
Angela and Robert were previously married but had since divorced, authorities confirmed. Their bodies were discovered inside the home, and investigators say no other individuals were involved.
Police are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. “Because both individuals are deceased, forensic evidence, along with the findings of the Office of the Medical Examiner, will be critical in determining the cause and manner of death,” officials said in a statement.
At this time, the events leading up to the shooting remain unknown, and investigators continue to examine the scene and gather evidence.
