Charles Espinoza Arrested in Fatal Greeley Shooting of 18-Year-Old

GREELEY, Colo. — An early morning altercation in Greeley turned deadly on Wednesday, leaving an 18-year-old man dead and a 42-year-old Charles Espinoz suspect in custody.

According to the Greeley Police Department, the shooting occurred just after midnight in the 700 block of 15th Street. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found the young victim unresponsive at the scene. Investigators say the shooting followed a heated argument between the victim and a man seated inside a sport utility vehicle (SUV).

During the confrontation, the man in the SUV—later identified as Charles Espinoza—allegedly fired multiple shots at the victim, striking him several times. Bystanders attempted CPR while awaiting emergency responders. The victim was transported to Northern Colorado Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Following a swift investigation, police located and arrested Espinoza without incident. He is now facing a charge of first-degree murder and is being held at the Weld County Jail.

Authorities continue to investigate the events that led up to the shooting. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective James Riddle at james.riddle@greeleypd.com or call 970-502-3580.
