VIRGINIA BEACH, Va — A tragic crash on Saturday afternoon has claimed the life of a young motorcyclist in Virginia Beach. Nicholas Rizzotti, 21, died from injuries he sustained in a collision on the 3700 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard, according to a Monday update from the Virginia Beach Police Department.
The accident occurred around 12:55 p.m. and involved a collision between Rizzotti’s motorcycle and a passenger vehicle. Authorities report that both drivers were transported to the hospital shortly after the crash. Rizzotti was listed in critical condition upon arrival but later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at the hospital.
Initial findings from the ongoing investigation indicate that Rizzotti was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light at an intersection on Virginia Beach Boulevard. The other vehicle involved was making a turn onto the eastbound side of the boulevard when the two vehicles collided.
In the aftermath of the crash, police closed Virginia Beach Boulevard between Rosemont Road and Lynn Shores Drive to allow for accident reconstruction and cleanup. The road has since reopened to traffic.
The Virginia Beach Police Department continues to investigate the crash to determine all contributing factors. No charges have been announced at this time.
Rizzotti’s death marks another sobering reminder of the dangers of high-speed travel and the importance of obeying traffic signals, especially at busy intersections.
Authorities are urging motorists—particularly motorcyclists—to prioritize safety and reduce speed, emphasizing that even a moment of recklessness can have devastating consequences.
