HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. — The Highland Park community is grieving the tragic loss of Catone Scott, who was killed in a violent crash early Wednesday morning on Detroit’s east side.
According to the Detroit Police Department, the incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. near the intersection of Gratiot Avenue and French Road. Investigators say the vehicle, carrying four adults, was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control and slammed into the wall of Nationwide Furniture, causing a massive hole in the building’s exterior.
Catone Scott, a beloved member of the Highland Park community, was among the victims in the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another occupant also died in the crash, while a third remains hospitalized in critical condition. The fourth individual sustained less severe injuries and is listed in stable condition.
The driver of the vehicle survived and has been arrested. Police are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Formal charges are expected as the investigation continues.
The Detroit Police Fatal Crash Unit is leading the inquiry and working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the deadly accident.
